HCM: Where did you grow up?
Mike and Polly: We both grew up in Southwest Louisiana
HCM: How does living in Louisiana inspire your art?
Mike and Polly: In our opinion Louisiana is an artists’ haven. Natural beauty and natural materials to paint surround us.
HCM: How long have you both been artists? Have you always worked in the media you work in now?
Mike and Polly: In 1995 Mike began painting in oils on canvas and natural woods. Many of his inspirations then and now are from the shape or texture of the wood. Polly started painting on plaster in the 70’s. She’s been doing ceramics and porcelain (china painting) since the 80’s. Then she progressed to oils, acrylics, and finally watercolors in the 90’s until present day.
HCM: What other things or circumstances inspire you?
Mike and Polly: Photographs, memories, and our surroundings inspire us.
HCM: Do you have a routine for making art: a certain time of day, or a favorite place to go?
Mike and Polly: We have an art studio in our home, where we actually do our work. We are not limited to any certain day or time of day. When either one of us is inspired or we have a special order to fill, we paint.
HCM: Are you inspired by the work of any other artists? If so, who?
Mike and Polly: Mike is most inspired by landscape artists. Artists that paint flowers in watercolors inspire Polly the most. We both use our photography as studies for our creations. No one artist stands out as a favorite. We plainly love ART.
HCM: What do you hope viewers take away from your art?
Mike and Polly: Our intention is for viewers to see nature through our creations. We are expanding our work to include an eclectic blend of natural materials.
HCM: What has been the highlight of your artistic career?
Mike and Polly: Local and regional art collectors and artists have accepted our work. Having their acceptance inspires us to expand our level of artwork.
HCM: Are you interested in any other kinds of art besides visual art? If so, what?
Mike and Polly: We do not limit our art appreciation to visual art. We have an interest in all forms of art.
HCM: Do you have an artist’s statement, a mission statement, or a motto?
Mike and Polly: There are no limits to the possibilities of art. “To leave a remembrance of a place been, or a dream of a place to go.”
